Sauerland Tour June 2022

The first long weekend Trip of 2022 and the first larger Club outing. We had planned for this one back in 2020 but due to the travel stop it was postponed to 2022! We started with 8 in total but due to some cancellations we were down to 6 of us.

Friday morning and I set off from The Hague towards the MacDonald's restaurant at Dordrecht. Ray was waiting there and shortly after 0930 we headed south. George was able to join us later in the Route and Wendy and Arend had decided to travel on ahead with their car and trailer. Louis also would join later in the afternoon. After a short ride in the East of Holland we crossed into Germany and through the busy Ruhr area before clearing out into the open roads of the Sauerland area.

We arrived at our Hotel - Landhaus Klockner around 1700 in time for a shower and then relaxing with beers and food. Food and accommodation was excellent.

Next morning we set of south of the Sundern and headed down into Sauerland proper. Weather was hot and sunny and perfect for riding through the winding roads and open countryside. After a lunch stop along the way we were heading back to the hotel and another good evening of drinks and food before closing the day.

Day 2 and as preedicted the wesather had turned a bit grey with expected raimn. Nevertheless we decided to head out northwards toqrds the lakes area around the Mohne See. Traffic meant not being able to really get going but soon after we cleared the tourisic roads we were able to get some more speed up. Unfortunatwely around 1200 it started to rain so we made the decision to head back to the hotel. Arend and Wendy bought some cakes for ocffee and we relaxed waiting for the rain to stop.

Around 3 o'clock it looked dry enough to give it another try but most had decided they were happy to say at the hotel so George and myself headed off south towards the Sorpe see. The first 30 mins were unfortunately wet hindering our progress but after the rain stopped the roads were still warm enough to dry up the moisture and for the last hour we encountered open roads, great bends and had the best part of the wgole trip. After our final evening we geared up on Monday and headed back towards Holland. A really enjoyable trip !
